The Unconventional Pointed Pen

Description

Creative tiny Foundational letterforms and Roman capitals using the versatile pointed pen is the focus for this workshop.

Supplies

(all asterisks * are required for this workshop)

• *Pencil (for note taking)
• *0.03 Mechanical pencil
• *White vinyl eraser
• *Natural bristle mixing/loading brush
• *Pen wipe
• *Water pot
• *6 well palette (I prefer porcelain – the investment is worth it)
• *12” C-Thru ruler
• *Triangle (either 8, 10 or 12 inches) for lining paper
• *STRAIGHT pen holder (not oblique – please)

Nibs:

• *(2) Hunt 56 (required)
• *(1) Nikko G (required)
• Optional nibs:
• Brause EF66
• Gillott 404
• Leonardt Principal EF

Paper:

• *JNB Gilbert bond Graph
  Tracing paper (8.5X11” works great)
• *Several pieces of finer paper (we will be working small so scraps are great – no smaller than 6X8” please)
• *Arches text wove (Velin)
• Arches MBM
• Zerkall
• German Ingres
• etc…..what is in your studio???

Mediums:

• *Walnut Ink or Higgins Eternal
• *2 to 3 Colors of watercolor (suggestion: Indigo & Sap Green)
• *Gum Arabic
• *Coliro (Finetec) “Arabic Gold”

Optional:

• Black paper or any other darker (fine) paper
• Dr. Ph Martin’s Pen-white ink
• Fons & Porter mechanical white lead pencil (I love and use this all of the time!)
• Gold Pearl Ex
