Thomas Hoyer has a MA in graphic design and calligraphy. As a student he worked for the Calligraphy Department of the German government. For more than 25 years now he works as a freelance calligrapher and type designer. Influenced by the thoughts of Hans-Joachim Burgert it is his conviction that every letter bases on a definition with infinite possibilities of shape. Thomas has 30 years of teaching experience including Cheerio in Fall 2004 where he was invited by John Stevens as the first German instructor in the 30 year long history of this place. He taught from Moscow till Melbourne. Almost every year sample(s) of his work are selected for the Annual issue of the LAR. He is mainly known for his ruling pen mastership.
